NeuMat Spotlight: Neuromorphic Hardware & Algorithms Workshop — 11–12 June 2026
NeuMat is excited to highlight an upcoming community‑building event for the UK and European neuromorphic computing community: the Neuromorphic Hardware and Algorithms Workshop, taking place at the University of Sussex on 11–12 June 2026.
This workshop creates a dedicated space for early‑career researchers (ECRs) working in neuromorphic engineering, algorithms, hardware design, materials, and computational neuroscience to present their work, build professional networks, and explore collaboration opportunities.
Hosted as part of James Knight’s (jk421@sussex.ac.uk) EPSRC fellowship, the event continues the UK’s strong momentum in neuromorphic technologies—bringing together emerging talent and senior leaders shaping the next generation of brain‑inspired hardware.
A Strong Line‑up of Keynotes and Invited Speakers
The programme features two outstanding keynote speakers, internationally recognised for their contributions to neuromorphic systems:
- Chiara Bartolozzi — Italian Institute of Technology
- André van Schaik — University of Manchester / Western Sydney University
Alongside them is a diverse, high‑quality roster of invited ECR speakers from institutions across the UK, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, including:
- Federico Corradi (Eindhoven University of Technology)
- Laura Kriener (Universität Zürich)
- Simone Manoni (Università di Bologna)
- Luca Peres (University of Manchester)
- Sebastian Siegel (Forschungszentrum Jülich)
- Pengfei Sun (Imperial College London)
- Yexin Yan (TU Dresden)
This speaker list reflects the vibrancy and interdisciplinarity of the neuromorphic research ecosystem—and the workshop’s commitment to giving early‑career researchers a prominent platform.
What to Expect: Talks, Posters, Tutorials & Networking
A full schedule will be released in early April following the close of talk registrations, but attendees can expect:
- Submitted research talks from ECRs across the UK and Europe
- A dedicated poster session
- Tutorials on neuromorphic hardware and software
- Plenty of structured and informal networking opportunities
— ideal for forging new collaborations and cross‑disciplinary links
The workshop’s design places community‑building front and centre, ensuring that participants have time to meet, share ideas, and explore new research directions.
Registration Details
- Registration is now open via the event’s registration form
- Abstract review deadline: 31 March 2026
- General registration closes: 22 May 2026 (or earlier if capacity is reached)
- Cost: Participation is free, supported by EPSRC funding
- If you register but later cannot attend, please inform the organisers promptly so your place can be reallocated.
This is a valuable opportunity for early‑career neuromorphic researchers to engage with peers, connect with leading figures in the field, and contribute to shaping the emerging landscape of neuromorphic hardware and algorithms.
