NeuMat members with expertise in neuromorphic computing, AI hardware, edge computing, embedded systems and low-power electronics may be interested in a new Innovation Exchange (iX) Challenge from Tekh and Innovate UK Business Connect.
The challenge is seeking partners to develop a new generation of low Size, Weight, Power and Cost (SWaP-C) computing hardware capable of running AI inference at the edge. Rather than maximising performance, the focus is on understanding how much compute is actually needed to deliver useful AI capabilities in constrained environments, with applications spanning defence, robotics, manufacturing, agriculture and remote sensing.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to collaborate with Tekh on the design and prototyping of experimental edge AI hardware platforms. Projects can request up to £60,000 in grant funding and must be delivered over a three-month period between March and May 2027. The call is open to businesses, academic institutions, SMEs, start-ups and entrepreneurs based in, or intending to establish a base in, the UK.
Applications close on 6 November 2026, with shortlisted applicants invited to pitch later that month and successful projects expected to begin in March 2027.
