A new UK–Canada initiative is creating opportunities for Early Career Researchers to build international collaborations and help shape the future of semiconductor research.
CANUTE is a UKRI-funded UK–Canada semiconductor network bringing together the lead organisations of four UK Innovation and Knowledge Centres: CHIMES, CORNERSTONE, NEUROWARE and REWIRE, led by the University of Southampton.
The network has a particular focus on supporting Early Career Researchers (ECRs) in the UK and Canada, enabling them to establish new relationships and lead collaborative research spanning advanced materials, photonics and chip design.
CANUTE will support a programme of ECR-led activities including workshops, sandpits, researcher exchanges and dissemination activities. Participants will also be supported through mentoring, online training, an ECR forum and opportunities to contribute to the governance of the Network+.
Join an introductory CANUTE webinar
CANUTE is holding four introductory webinars over the coming weeks. Each session will introduce the network, outline its planned activities and explain how ECRs can get involved. The approximately 50-minute presentation and Q&A will be followed by an optional 10-minute informal discussion.
The four sessions are:
- Monday 26 October 2026, 12:00 UTC
- Friday 30 October 2026, 16:00 UTC
- Monday 2 November 2026, 12:00 UTC
- Friday 6 November 2026, 16:00 UTC
NeuMat members, and particularly researchers at an early stage of their careers, are encouraged to attend and find out more about opportunities to connect with the wider UK and Canadian semiconductor communities.
