NeuMat is pleased to spotlight the upcoming Theo Murphy meeting, Nature of intelligence: Bridging animal and artificial intelligence. Taking place 21-22 September 2026, this two-day interdisciplinary event will expore how principles of biological intelligence can inform next-generation AI systems.
Organised by Dr HaDi MaBouDi, Professor Andrew Barron (Macquarie University) and Professor Mikko Juusola (University of Sheffield), the meeting brings together researchers from animal cognition, system neuroscience, bio-inspired robotics and neurocomputation. It will examine how intelligence emerges in natural systems and how these insights can drive more adaptive, efficient artificial intelligence.
Interdisciplinary focus aligned with NeuMat
The event closely aligns with NeuMat’s mission, fostering dialogue between biologists, engineers and AI researchers to:
- Build interdisciplinary collaborations
- Identify shared challenges
- Advance bio-inspired and neuromorphic approaches to intelligence
Alongside talks and discussions featuring a strong international speaker line-up, a poster session and drinks reception will support networking and engagement, particularly for early-career researchers.
Attending the meeting
- Free to attend (in-person only)
- Attendance is by invitation following a short application
- Requests are reviewed on a rolling basis
- Registration is confirmed upon acceptance.
Supporting future neuromorphic innovation
